Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre (CYBT) is our December Nonprofit of the Month sponsored by South Atlantic Bank.
CYBT is the nonprofit performing company of Coastal Dance Centre and is known for its annual public performances of The Nutcracker which runs for two weekends only starting Dec. 10. The company in conjunction with it’s dance school has produced The Nutcracker for 17 years this year, and each year adds new surprises for the audience.
The nonprofit’s mission is to promote arts appreciation and cultural enhancement in the community, provide access to high caliber ballet training and performance opportunities through raining, performances, scholarship and outreach programs. It is led by Liza Mata, artistic and executive director, and her daughter Karen Mata, co-artistic director and ballet mistress.
Donations to CYBT help provide scholarships for dancers to continue training.
Past CYBT company members have gone on to study dance further at the National Ballet School of Canada, Boston Ballet School, The Julliard School, The Dutch National Ballet Academy, and the San Francisco Ballet School, among others.
